Pre-employment checkup:
Management recognizes the importance of a healthy workforce to provide the desired services to the public. Hence it is mandatory for each and every new selected candidate to undergo mandatory pre-employment check. Only candidates found medically fit are given the appointment letter. The record of the same is documented in the personal file of the employee Apart from the permanent employee of the hospital for whom it is mandatory to undergo pre-employment medical check as per the policy, has made it mandatory for all the contractual employees also to undergo pre-employment medical checkup. The basic aim is to have a healthy workforce capable committed and fit to provide the required health care services (directly or indirectly) to the public.

Management is committed to provide quality work environment by taking adequate preventive measures to reduce occupational health hazards. In so far as safety of the employees in the work place is concerned the hospital has laid down policy with regard to protection against fire, infection control, handling of dangerous equipment’s, safety against exposure to radiation.
Every employee undergoes fire safety training and thereafter attends fire drills. Similarly employees who are exposed to patients and those required to handle waste are given proper training in handling the waste as well as universal precautions.
In case of accidents or injury sustained by employees while at work immediate medical attention would be directed. The entire hospital premise is strictly declared as no smoking zone.
As regards evacuation of employees in case of emergency due to fire, natural calamity or any disaster, these matters are covered in detail in the safety manual and Disaster Management Manual.
Infection control practices
The hospital shall ensure that procedures are in place to manage risk of hospital acquired infection for employee’s working in high-risk areas. All employees coming in direct contact with the patient shall undergo regular health checkup once a year.
The hospital shall provide necessary protective gear like aprons, gloves, masks, goggles etc. to employees performing work involving direct contact with potentially infected body tissues, blood and other body fluids / secretions. The relevant supervisors shall ensure that the staff adheres to these protective requirements.
In high-risk areas the hospital shall undertake immunization to all categories of staff involved to reduce the risk of potential infection to the employees.

The organisation carries out regular health checks for the staff dealing with direct patient care. This is done on a yearly basis and the results of such checks are documented. The employees undergo vaccination and other checks as per the requirements.
Annual medical checkup and vaccination drive:
Hospital must follow a system to undertake an annual health checkup of all its employees so as to assess their level of fitness and a record of the same is maintained in the personal file of the employee.

Vaccination
Hepatitis B for all patient, BMW, specimen handling staff and canteen staff. Schedule is 0-1-6 & Booster dose after 5 years
Vaccination for canteen employees
- Tybar for typhoid vaccination once in a year
- TT for tetanus once in 5 years
- Hep B – Schedule is 0-1-6 & Booster dose after 5 years
- Albendazole 400mg for deworming once in 6 months
The health hazards include physical, chemical, biological, mechanical and psychosocial hazards.
The radiation exposure in the radiation related departments is monitored and steps taken to minimize the hazards.
Training is given to all employees on occupation health hazards
Appropriate personal protective equipment are provided to the staff concerned and they are educated on how to use them
